Addendums

Little add-ons to former posts:

-I've tried some old Gatorade flavors and some new ones in the past couple of weeks. Found some Citrus Cooler in Tennessee, Lana found Watermelon Ice somewhere, I saw some kid with Tropical Cooler but couldn't ask him where he got it. I also tried Victory Lane Orange (not recommended) and the new Grape-Cherry X-Factor. The Watermelon Ice was something I could drink all the time and never get sick of. The Grape-Cherry is good/great, but not something I'd want to drink all day at an ultimate tournament.

-My summer league team is now 8-7 with one week left of regular season.

-Jake, Lana, and I went to Abram's Falls in Smokey Mountains National Park in Tennessee, as you may have read on July 1st. We went swimming near the waterfall in the cool pool of water that collects there before running downstream again. Apparently, a college student drowned in that same pool of water the next day after being pulled under the waterfall by the strong currents. I could definitely sense a strong pull back towards the waterfall, but I never thought it could be that deadly.

-Soccer...I skipped the World Cup finals for 4s at practice, that's how concerned I was to watch the game. Watching the highlights was sufficient for me. I am going to play a soccer game this weekend against my brother's friends. Ten of his friends against ten of us local ultimate players.

-No Crazy Kevin and the Flying Kevins practice...yet. My fingers aren't blistered anymore, though, so I'm clear to play guitar again. No more Helter Skelter.

-CLX is kind of confusing this year, maybe as much to other players as I've found out recently as to myself. I need to send out an email to the team, but will post here some first, I guess. We won't be going to nationals, which begs the question, do we compete in the series? Then, do we try to recruit new players to the team when this year is sort of just practice for worlds? How do we deal with pickups? These questions need to be answered soon. I have to admit it has been tough to get into workout mode for this season because I don't know what our team goals are besides "win tournaments".

-Trifurcate stream. Recently. It was a trip to watch.

More original material to come.

The series question is a concern, as is the lack of a Nationals goal. Or at least it is to some. Is the last qualifier from the central going to do so well that we really care who it is? In a purely ethical context, it shouldn't matter, but we aren't denying teams the "right" to play at Nationals- we might just change up who receives that privelege...or not; it might come out exactly the same except those teams would get the privelege of playing us. I want to play the series because it will be good competition and I like to play ultimate (more so when I am not palying). I guess I really like playing with CLX, and that's all I want to do: play more.

It would be less confusing if you communicated more. I know you think overcommunication is the world's largest issue, but seriously, it isn't like you couldn't ask the team what their goals for the season are and what their thoughts on playing the series are. This isn't a democracy, but you could get some opinions/ideas from beyond the mouthiest/pushiest of us (Shawn and me), and it might help you to shape your goals.

It might be easier to push workouts if more of the Ames people worked out together. I know my sprint workouts improved with the addition of Jon and Mike. I would love someone that would run with me a couple mornings a week. It may be crazy, but if we could do one drill before we played on Tuesday and Thursday, that would be good for me. I, too, have had problems with motivation at pick-up lately- I can't treat them like games often because I don't feel like a team of people the way I do at tournaments. If I get down and Ben or Lana isn't on my team, I have to pull myself all the way back up alone- there is rarely any encouragement or constructive criticism.

Aren't you glad I got a blogspot? ;)

Does the last qualifier matter? Well, yes. Remember when we were the last qualifier last year? Or Blah in 2003 who took 6th at nationals, at the time the highest placement for a central coed team. Even Carleton in 2005 finished higher than Hot Action, if only by one spot.

It would be a serious issue if there were only two bids and we made it to finals, otherwise, it might not matter a whole lot, but could.

I did send out an email about this season, and I bet less than half the team responded. Without begging for input, I usually have to make guesses about what everybody wants.

When I ask if people can attend tournaments, I bet less than half usually respond. I found out after deciding not to go to GRUB that a few were excited about/planning to go. I had no idea. So I have to make judgments based on the first couple of emails that come in.

Did you really write this at 512 in the morning?

who is warrior princess?

We were at Abram's Falls for my bachelor party...that place was awesome. Some people got killed by bears right after we were there, and some people were killed by aligators in Florida right after our honeymoon, which makes me wonder if people get killed by animals a lot and I don't notice unless I was just there looking at those animals or if life is just crammed full of strange coincidences.

I feel your motivation woes, and your confusion about the season. I can say that I am desperately looking forward to Worlds, and will hopefully start getting into shape for real now that Amy will have more time and we can motivate each other to sprint. I wouldn't have been able to justify going to Nationals if we qualified because of the time I'll miss for Worlds. As for the series, I say we plan on going and bowing out if we qualify. Tournaments are still tournaments, and tournaments with these people and this team are always a great time; might be even more so if we know nothing is on the line since we wouldn't go...no reason to feel any pressure, except the pressure to have fun and humble some teams. Could be a great time, and more relaxing than the last two years intensity packed series.

So, for those CLXers that read Kevin's blog, answer his damn e-mails and feel free to randomly e-mail as humorously and often as Walding. This way, although we may miss working out together, the banter and "planning" that occur during normal teams' seasons can occur in a less inhibited manner.

ps-I DO read and answer your e-mails and I STILL don't know what people are ACTUALLY playing on CLX this year.

pps- yes, the original was at 5:12 am as I had just arrived in Cleveland for the joyous union in holy matrimony of BJ and Lindsay.
